In the third quarter of 2024, the art and design app category in South Africa saw varied performance across the top five applications, as reported by Sensor Tower.

Canva: Design, Art & AI Editor maintained a robust presence throughout the quarter. Weekly revenue fluctuated, peaking at approximately $33K by late September. Downloads showed a significant surge towards the end, reaching around 44.9K weekly. The app also enjoyed a steady increase in active users, culminating in about 337K by the end of September.

Future Self Face Aging Changer experienced a remarkable growth in downloads, particularly in July, with numbers rising from 65 to over 22K. Active users followed a similar upward trajectory, reaching nearly 38.5K by the end of the quarter. Revenue started modestly but saw a notable increase, hitting approximately $78 in the last week of September.

Genius: AI Photo Generator saw a substantial rise in downloads during September, peaking at about 50.9K in the third week. Active user numbers mirrored this trend, reaching over 44.7K by late September. Revenue, although minimal, showed a slight increase towards the end of the quarter.

AI Photo Editor: BG Remover had a varied performance in downloads, with a peak of 17K in late July, followed by a gradual decline. Active users saw a similar pattern, peaking at 10.1K in early August before decreasing.

Flyers, Poster Maker, Design started the quarter with strong download numbers of about 16.5K, but these declined sharply by the end of July. Active users also decreased over the quarter, although a slight recovery was observed in September. Weekly revenue remained low throughout the quarter.
